What does a BrickGal love more than Happy Hour with amigas? Double happy hour with the opps to meet some quality BrickGuys. A few places have been popping up around the hood offering both early and late happy hour specials, but no one does it better than Gordon Biersch. Get outta work early and want to hit the vino? Check, discount on that. Want to take on Jose and Jim while catching the Heat take on the Mavs? Yup! Gots that too! From 4 – 6:30 and 10-close, Gordon Biersch offers domination drink specials (think $1 off beers, $2 off wine and $5 cocktails). Another bonus, the food is f-in amazing, and honestly when some plates are priced at 5 bucks, really, its like why the f not? Those dang Southwestern Egg Rolls are so kickin incredible, and the mini pizzas (I’ll take BBQ Chix please) may not be on your diet but they definitely taste amaze balls. Super bonus, Gordon Biersch is in the heart of the Finance District (boys in suits? Yes, please.) as well as a guys guy place to catch games.
Hump Day Treat: Danny Rojas
8 JunHola BrickGals!!!! Apologies I’m late as this BrickGal is in Cabo this week for work (yea, too bad your job sucks more than mine). This week our Hump Day Treat comes courtesy of BrickGal Cessie. His name means “red,” the color of love, but even though he is taken (last -ish I’m promise!), if you see him out maybe you can like his fire.
Name: Daniel “Danny” Rojas
Age: 31 this month on June 22nd (give it up for the Geminis like BrickGal Meg & Jen Bunny – stayed tuned for birthday deets)
Hometown: Miami, Yes I know I am an endangered species in Brickell. I do have other adopted hometowns though as I am a mutt (Parents are from Nicaragua & Uruguay). (BrickGals love a little latin feva)
Single n’ Looking? Up until recently, but I’ve met someone and we’ve pretty much made it official. (dangggg)
If so, what are you looking for in a BrickGal? After my divorce I moved to Brickell to find a “BrickGal” or “Gals”. I thought, “Where would be the best place for a young single professional to move to?” Brickell was my number one choice. I enjoyed my single life very much for about 4 months but then met one girl that left a lasting impression on me and we’re currently dating. (k homegals, you heard it here. BrickGuys are looking for relationships in Brickell!)
Celebrity Crush? Scarlett Johansson (not this BrickGals fav….)
What you got with Brickell? I’ve lived in Brickell for about a year now. Currently renting but might look into buying in a year or so. I’ve worked at Kahn-Carlin for 7 years now, an insurance agency in the Grove so my drive is very scenic, with no traffic and only 12 minutes. I sell commercial insurance and actually insure some of the businesses & office buildings in the Brickell area. (smarty mc. brick pants)
Favorite Place to Eat in Brickell? This is a hard one for sure because every restaurant here has something unique to offer. I would have to say Acqua at the Four Seasons (They have the best dulce de leche glazed lamb chops). (Ok, which BrickGuy wants to take me??)
Favorite Place to Go Out with Friends in Brickell? Fado’s, Transit Lounge and usually end the night at RedBar because they play the best music to dance to out of all the places (Old Skool Hip Hop).
Favorite Thing to Do in Brickell? Love the fact that you can walk everywhere - to dinner, gym, shops, bars…can’t get any better than that. Just walking around the area with the beautiful breeze we get. Especially during the weeknights & mornings when it’s quiet out. (yupsies, my fav too!)
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not working? Tennis, Volleyball, Golf, Swimming, Just relaxing at the beach or pool, watching sports, dancing, getting together with friends.
Best Place to meet BrickGals? Baru, but you must speak Spanish, lol. (that’s a negative)
What’s your favorite thing about the hood? It’s Diversity. I’ve met people from everywhere in the world here in Brickell.
What makes Axis a great place to lay your head? I love the architecture of the building, looks very modern, sleek & classy. I love my unobstructed view from high up in the sky and the units have plenty of room. The fixtures are what sold me though, the modern kitchen and bathroom are very nice. The pool is by far one of their best assets too. I’ve seen most pools at other buildings in the area and the pool(s) at the Axis are so much nicer than most of them.

So, you heard it here first BrickGals, there are BrickGuys looking for relationships. Not all the boys in the hood (and surrounding areas) want to hit it and quit it. ‘Til next week!
Indian Intro: Mint Leaf Brickell
2 JunFor the past several months, I’ve walked past a myriad of store fronts along S. Miami, Brickell and 1st Ave that have gone from this to that and that to this (I mean, honestly, can any of these bitches stay in biz?). Finally things are starting to settle down, and my first stop on the list of must-tries is Indian Brasserie Mint Leaf. The new Brickell outpost of the Coral Gables’ staple was the perfect spot for mi amiga and I’s early dinner (I mean, literally, we were pushing early bird special) just a few weeks ago.
This BrickGal has never gone Indian (in more ways than one), so I had no idea what I was in for. After choosing a bottle of wine (uh duh, how else does the perfect meal start?), our waiter recommended we start with the Lasooni Jhinga. The Lasooni what? It sounded like a character in Goonies 2: The Reunion. In actuality, it was a dish of king prawns cooked in the tandoor (aka fancy name for an oven) that had a very tasty garlicy sauce (glad I wasn’t out with a BrickGuy that night). The small portion size (6 prawns) for $17 makes me suggest you go without it.
After we quickly gobbled up the prawns, we received our entrees - Murg Jalfrezi (chicken with peppers and onions) for Spanish Hips and Macchili Korma (mahi cooked in an almond and coconut sauce that was to die for) por moi. Unfortunately, the paleo diet I’m currently kickin’ it with prohibited me from gettin’ with any of the side dishes as the restaurant – bread, rice, yoghurt, etc. I did however thoroughly enjoy (and I’m not even joking) the Kachumbar Salad - Onion, tomato and cucumber salad with a lemon and chili dressing. I vow to go back and get the salad for lunch. Delish!
We didn’t hit up dessert at this point because we were both bringing home something for lunch the following day. Our bill was pretty steep running around $75 a person (tax and tip included), but it was worth it being able to use that almond and coconut sauce to smoother my Paleo veggies for the rest of the week.
Overall, the food was great. The price not so much. The young host and servers? Could go either way depending on the level of cougar you’re feeling that night.
** Note to BrickGals, have your BrickGuy take you (and obs pick up the check) and slip one of those youngbucks your digits post-meal.
Hump Day Treat: Kevin Marshburn
1 JunIt’s that time of the week, BrickGals! After a fabulous long Memorial Day weekend, we’ve really only been slaving away at work for about a day and a half but that doesn’t mean we don’t need our Hump Day Treat. Today, we bring you one of the most subtly funny BrickGuys this hood has to offer. In honor of the Royal Wedding that occurred in the not so distant past, this BrickGuy also rivals Prince Harry on the hotness scale (you may not be able to tell when he’s shoving a turkey leg down his throat, but alas use your imaginations BrickGals, BrickGuys like meat!).
Name: Kevin Marshburn
Age: 26
Hometown: Annapolis, MD (same as one of the BrickGals… can you guess who?)
What’s a good quality in a BrickGal? I like a girl who is open minded and doesn’t judge a book by its cover. She cannot take life, herself, or me for that matter, too seriously. But at the same time she must be driven and successful (or on a path to becoming successful – hence, driven). And, if you’re latin or good at dancing, then you get bumped up at least 2 points right off the bat. (bold, underline and italicize “Latin” for this BrickGuy)
Celebrity Crush? Kim Kardashian. I know it’s obvious and played out, but if it aint broke don’t fix it. (Guess we should have mentioned that this BrickGuy will take Latins or anyone that looks like one)
What you got with Brickell? Live at the Vue (see more below)
What’s your deal? I work for an education company. I’m the Director of our Online Remote Learning System. It is in the development stage now, so most of my work hours include writing curriculums and developing relationships with potential partner schools nationwide. If you need help with standardized tests, I’m your guy. If you don’t need help with standardized tests, then I’m a wealth of worthless knowledge. (soundssss interesting….
j/k BrickGals dig smart guys)
How long have you lived in the hood? Only lived in Brickell since December, and love it. But I’ve been in South Florida for the past 3 years, splitting my time between South Beach and Ft Lauderdale. I also love South Beach and Ft Lauderdale. (loves Brickell the most. duh, BrickGals is here)
Favorite Place to Eat in Brickell? B and B, it really never fails…
Favorite Place to Go Out with Friends in Brickell? Blue Martini. It can be hit or miss, but of the nights that I can recall, it’s almost always been a hit for me. (when in doubt, find Latins here)
Favorite Thing to Do in Brickell? Mainly drink. (honesty is the best policy!)
Best Place to meet BrickGals? The Publix. I have this move where I follow girls around and ask them what isle things are found in. Then I go right in with a joke. It works almost 5% of the time. (please prepare your comeback now BrickGals)
What’s your favorite thing about the hood? Everything is within walking distance and it’s easy to get around. I also like the young professional vibe that Brickell exudes. I have a “work hard, play hard” mindset, and that seems to be right in line with the rest of the BrickGals and Guys. (tru dat brotha)
What makes Vue a great place to lay your head? It’s a pretty central location and I like being right on Miami Ave. And of course, the view, no pun intended. Our balcony is really high up and when I break out the binoculars I can see almost all of Brickell. So if you sunbathe on your pool deck, there is a good chance I’ve met you from a distance… (BrickGals policy: always wear your tops while sunbathing on your terrace)
*****
Truth be told, this BrickGuy is a quality guy… Just make sure he’s not “single-ish” when he takes you on a date
.

Crosssfit Around the Clock
1 JunWhat’s up Brick Gals! Memorial Day weekend is long and gone. SIGH. Is it Friday yet? For those of you who decided to stay in town, surely woke up early and went to the group WOD at Alice Wainwright Park in Brickell-right?! (BrickGal Megan did and got her ass kicked by Alex & Orlando, but the eye candy was totally worth it.)
This week I decided to grow some balls and finally get to the bottom of D630 (AKA the 6:30 am class). Yes, bitches, this BrickGal cut into her beauty sleep (the Heat kept me up with that nail biting game) and woke up at the crack of 6 am. Not only did I discover that apparently there are roosters in Brickell (and they crow really loud) but also that waking up is probably the hardest part of the whole ordeal! The 6:30 morning class is pretty much awesome. I technically only woke up 45 minutes earlier than I would for 7:30, but it made such a huge difference when I realized, I was done and had a much more relaxed morning without rushing. I even had time to make me a yummy veggie omelet (yayyyy Paleo!).
Later on in the week, I decided to give the Crossfit Blitz a try. Considering my office is literally two buildings down, Crossfit Blitz is a perfect mid day lunch break. I left at 12, hauled ass over to the box, quickly changed and within 15 minutes, I was dying. The only setback to the Blitz is the heat, especially now since the summer is here, making it even more hot! The outside warm-ups are no joke, its freakin HOTT! But once we started our WOD inside, it was cool. Except those ring pushups are recipe for facial deformation! Umm, picture this girl on her knees trying to do a pushup with her hands through two rings hanging from the ceiling. Yeah- it was more like my arms couldn’t keep steady and I kept falling on my face! After two of those, I gave up and resulted to my regular chick pushups. And I’m OK with that. All in all, Blitz is perfect- and I will def start incorporating it into my week to add some variety and of course, catch up on my sleep! The classes are small (I think there were no more than 15 of us), and the WOD is designed to be quick but intense. In addition, the convenient showers (minus the annoying part where I had to bring my own towel) all made for a perfect mid day lunch workout, leaving my afternoon free to go play after work (Yayyy happy hour!).
All in all, I still enjoy my 7:30 p.m. class- I mean nothing beats Gio & Cisco screaming in your face during wall balls “Lower Cessie, Lower” (yeah umm, G, this isn’t LIV, and I’m not trying to be one Rick Ross’s video hoes).
** Side Note: Congrats to all the coaches and participants who participated in the Crossfit regional competition this weekend. Vida took 2nd Place! That’s right, BrickGals obs learn from the best!
